Fuck Yea[h] NBA

A few updates from David Stern during this opening day of NBA action.
Stern regrets the way the vetoed Chris Paul trade was handled by his office saying, “‘I do think I could’ve done a better communications job coming out of it,’ Stern Said. I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t think it was appropriate to be criticizing players who were or could’ve been included because of my role. It’s a job as the owners’ representative I was stuck with.’” [USA Today]
David Stern is also relieved the new CBA has been signed, and he thinks it’s going to work.

While admitting that he was “a little bit relieved” to be presiding over an opening day that almost didn’t happen, NBA commisssioner David Stern vowed Sunday that the new labor agreement reached last month is “going to work over time” to create a competitively balanced league. “We think we’re going to come out of this pretty well,” Stern said before his first opening-day stop, the NBA Finals rematch between the Heat and Mavericks. Afterward, Stern was set to make his way to Oklahoma City to watch the Magic and Thunder. “We’re beginning to see shorter contacts already under the collective bargaining agreement as teams cast a wary eye on two years from now, when the enhanced tax gets to be considerably higher and you have to be mindful of that,” Stern said.

OK David, whatever you say, since a fans opinions doesn’t matter at all, and Dell Demps is still trying to find the testicles you took from him. [CBS Sports’ Ken BergerSphere]
David Stern wants to caution NBA fans about handing the Heat the Larry O’Brien Trophy: “Despite so many predictions of the Heat winning the championship, Stern cautioned against ‘mailing the trophy’ to Miami before the season. Stern reminded reporters that he said the same thing last season, and the Mavericks surprised everyone with its run to the championship.” [Miami Herald]
About the Dwight Howard situation brewing in Orlando, where the ambivalent about his future center has requested a trade, then said he wanted to stay, David Stern is a lot more open to the idea of Dwight going elsewhere, since he’s deserved it by staying with Orlando for a while, hmmm:

“‘That’s the beauty of the soap opera of basketball,’ Stern said before the  Orlando Magic faced the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Christmas night. ‘As in life, it’ll play out the way it plays out, and we’ll all be observers of it. I just don’t know.’
‘But, to me, I am of the view that when somebody has put in his years so to speak that he has earned his free agency. He’s free to decide where he’ll sign, and he’s not under a compunction under our system to re-sign with a team if he doesn’t want to.’”

Oh, David, you’re just everyone’s jolly, pedantic uncle. [Orlando Sentinel]
