Danny Granger scored more points than the entire Cleveland Cavaliers team during overtime of the Pacers-Cavaliers 98-91 victory.
He scored five of his overtime points during a 7-0 Pacers run to give them a 93-87 lead.
The Pacers will have a chance to move to 4-0 for the first time since 2004 tonight when they travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons.
The Pacers shouldn’t surprise anyone. With the addition of David West, the once mediocre franchise is now slightly above average, which is exactly how I view Granger. He’s only shooting 37%, and his ppg has dropped every year since its 25.8 apex in 2009, but it’s the shooting percentage that Pacers fans should be worried about if worrying about 3 games wasn’t asinine (take note Dallas).
With West adding an offensive punch and Hibbert turning into a decent threat on the low block, the Pacers are a threat to possibly move up to a 5 or even 4 seed in the East. I still can’t rate them ahead of Chicago, Miami, Boston or New York (if they get their act together), but they might be the best team out of the rest in the Eastern Conference.
Granger’s game is smooth and his jump shot is as pretty as anyone’s in the league (except maybe Ray Allen or Durantula), but why has his production fallen every year since 2009 and will it plateau into a good enough range for what the Pacers need? A 20, 5 and 5 plus some tough defense would be just about right, but we’ll see whether they deserve to replace New York as a top 4 seed, or if they’re hot start cools off and they struggle to even make the playoffs.
3 games ain’t nothing either. This is copy to fill space and ask rhetorical questions that don’t matter. It’s the first week. There’s so much basketball left to be played.
