just-mike-and-my-mind asked: To the question about traveling that someone asked earlier, why do you think the NBA refs are having so much trouble accurately calling games? Are the rules to ambiguous? Do they not have enough eyes on the court? What's your opinion?
I think referees are human. Human beings make mistakes. I don’t think there’s a serious gambling problem, like Donaghy theorists, but I think any time a human being is involved in a judgement call, they can make the wrong call.
This isn’t shitting on NBA referees at all, they have a hard job, but they are prone to mistakes. Everyone is! Neglecting to call a player for traveling, or more specifically: palming the ball, remains one of their more egregious blind-spots on the court. I don’t expect it to change, just like I don’t expect Dwight Howard to start shooting free throws underhanded because Rick Berry is “a cool dude.”
