Fuck Yea[h] NBA

The deadline to extend rookie contracts has come and gone, and a host of players either signed the max offer sheet for a five year extension (Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook), didn’t sign anything (Eric Gordon—he turned down the Hornets 4-year deal, and they didn’t offer him the 5-year max because he’s always getting injured), or found a middle ground and signed a maximum level contract without the 5th year attached (Kevin Love, in a move reminiscent of the way DWade, Melo, LeBron and Bosh signed after their own rookie deals ran out). So what to make of it all?
First, check out Zach Lowe’s column for SI’s The Point Forward blog on the goings on around the league over the last week. He does an excellent job summing everything up—in every situation. Basically a post I would have liked writing, if I had the time, and was paid handsomely to do so (those last two points are not mutually exclusive).
Then read Tom Ziller’s post for SB Nation on the Kevin Love less-than-max deal with Minnesota and why David Kahn might have “irked” his way out of a superstar by offering Kevin Love less years. Now was not the time to actually be frugal, David, and so KAAAAHHHHHHNNNNN happens again.  I warned you David, but maybe you thought you could find a better star than Kevin Love (I think he’s one of the top 10 players in the game now). Here’s a hint, you won’t find another Kevin Love.
