Fuck Yea[h] NBA

Steve Nash made the Western Conference All-Star team as a reserve last night, and you get the sense it may not be his last such nomination. But, even the well-conditioned Nash will have to retire at some point, so should the Suns deal him to a contender? Perhaps the Knicks? Or defending champion, Dallas?
Houston Chronicle columnist, Jonathan Feigen, thinks it’s Dallas that might be in the running for the point guard’s services as we slp into the doldrum days of this abbreviated NBA season.
The problem is what would Phoenix get in return? That is, what would they get in return other than the lottery pick and video montage they’ll get if Nash plays out the rest of his contract this season?

The problem remains that there is not much to send to Phoenix. Lamar Odom? Rodrigue Beaubois?
There does not seem an answer better than letting Nash finish things in Phoenix, clear roughly $12 million of cap space and start over next season.

I hope Suns fans can appreciate the silly scenario of Nash staying in Phoenix when you have nice trade bait like Nash’s expiring deal (and a chance to re-sign him to a shorter deal to finish out his career). With the trade deadline rapidly approaching a lot of teams are looking to bulk up their backcourt (hello, NYK’s again!), so why wouldn’t Phoenix GM, Lance Banks, roll the dice on a Nash trade?
Because fans would stop coming to basketball games in Phoenix. Nash is good enough to pay for tickets. After he’s gone, there’s only the Lopez twin that looks like Sideshow Bob.
